1. What is “Sharepoint and how much storage will we have?”
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, aka, Sharepoint or “student portal” is a web based application that allows teachers to create classroom web sites that their students can access from school or home. Teachers have the ability to post a calendar, assignments, projects, messages, etc. Teachers will also have 500 MB of storage on the web server that they can also access from home. Students will also have their own Sharepoint space with 100 MB of storage. They will be able to upload assignments to the teacher site. Teachers will be able to view student files, but students will not be able to view teacher files.

2. How do I log in?
Teachers & Students (and Parents with student password) only:
Keep reading for login instructions before clicking the following generic links
to the SharePoint home page for students and teachers.

On the address bar replace the words your_id_number (or "login name")
with your own ID and hit enter.

Home computer: At the login screen . . . .
Teachers must type:
id_name@vbschools.com & password
Students must type: id_#@vbstudents.com & password

3. Where can I read about Sharepoint and get help?
There are teacher and student help pages on the portal.
Teachers can access http://studentportal.vbschools.com/teacherinfo which has the training documentation.

Students can access http://studentportal.vbschools.com/StudentInfo/default.aspx

If you are doing this from home, it will ask you to authenticate; i.e. login. (see #2) Both of these pages will have an automatic link to your Sharepoint Home Page when you are logged on.

4. How do I change a student's password?
Here's any easy-to-use handout in pdf format. I also have the same document in Word filed under
I:\Teachers\Sharepoint Help Docs and Videos
