Principal's Message

Kempsville High School is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in the heart of the Kempsville Borough of the city.  Our residents possess a strong sense of community togetherness and pride, which is reflected in a strong commitment to and support of the school's entire educational program.  Kempsville High School is a comprehensive school with students enrolled in grades nine through twelve.

Within an A/B block schedule organization, the school offers an academically challenging program, which emphasizes student achievement, school climate, and enhanced communication between school and community.  On the average, eighty-four percent of our graduates go on to post-secondary education.   Kempsville students and their families have come to expect that students will graduate with a solid core foundation in language arts, math, science, and foreign language.  In addition to the core curriculum, business, art, music, vocational, and technical classes are available.  Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in seventeen different areas with approximately twelve percent of the students enrolled in one or more of these classes.

Kempsville houses programs for learning disabled, emotionally handicapped, and educable mentally handicapped students as well.   These students are provided individual assistance and mainstream classes in which regular and special education teachers work together to ensure IEP goals are achieved.

While academic achievement is our number one priority, Kempsville students participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities designed to complement the regular academic program.  Some forty-five clubs and activities and thirty-two athletic teams are available to all students.

At Kempsville High School we believe strongly in our that "learning is the key to opening doors for all people."   As our students prepare for the 21st century, the school and community work hand-in-hand to ensure that academic, creative, social, and physical needs are met.
